CERTIFIED LYMPHEDEMA CARE

Lympedema-Ulcers.jpeg

Lymphedema is a form of chronic fluid accumulation that can occur in any part of the body. Through therapy, you can learn how to manage the edema to get back to the activities you love.

Physical therapy assists each patient in managing their lymphedema to reduce the risk of open wounds, infection of the skin, and to keep the swelling from progressing.

Your treatment will consist of manual lymphatic drainage, skin care, compression bandaging, self-care with compression garments, and an individualized exercise program to help achieve your goals

Frequency of treatments will depend on your individual case.  Treatment can consist of 2 times a week or up to 5 times a week, depending on the stage and extensiveness of lymphatic swelling.  Treatment will conclude once you are independent/confident with management of your lymphedema.

Without the management of lymphedema a patient can be at risk for infections turning into sepsis. Sepsis can be a life threatening condition. Please contact a certified lymphedema specialist with any questions of how our Physical Therapist can help you.
